AI for pharmaceutical quality: an assistant and agents that work with human approval

QLogix Q Intelligence and Q Agent are AI for pharmaceutical quality: an AI quality assistant and AI agents that work on the same audited records as the quality system, while qualified people decide and sign. Q Intelligence answers questions about any record, document, audit trail or regulation, shows every source it consulted, and drafts the next investigation, CAPA, change control or document for a person to review and create. Q Agent works a goal across the quality system and proposes actions, such as logging a complaint, opening an investigation or sending an email, for a person to approve; drafts can be allowed to run on their own, but flags, emails and schedules always wait. Scheduled agents report on a cadence and propose emails and flags for approval. Nothing is signed, closed or approved by the AI, and every AI draft and action is an entry in the hash-chained audit trail with the AI tool and model named.

What the module does

  • Q Intelligence searches records, attachments, audit trails and projects, then the regulatory library, preferred websites and the open web, and lists what was consulted: every record, document, guidance passage, web page and connector call it used.
  • Regulatory answers cited by document, code and page from the regulatory library: FDA guidance and regulations, ICH quality guidelines, EU GMP, EMA and PIC/S indexed from the official documents, with your licensed ISPE and PDA copies searchable for your users.
  • Draft cards for an investigation, change control, CAPA, document or record link: Review and create opens the form pre-filled, and the record exists only when a person creates it.
  • Analysis in the conversation: control charts, Pareto and other charts from your data, hypothesis tests, and draft FMEAs and PFMEAs built from deviations, investigations and SOPs for the team to review.
  • Q Agent works a goal to a visible plan, reads the records with read-only tools, and proposes actions (log a complaint, open an investigation, draft the root cause analysis, run backlog triage or signal detection, flag a record, send an email, schedule a recurring agent), each with a reason a reviewer can check.
  • Two levels of autonomy: ask before every action, or create drafts without asking, under which flags, emails and schedules still wait. Actions run with the approver's own user permissions, never administrator authority.
  • Scheduled agents for daily huddle prep, overdue CAPA chasing, APR/PQR data packs, QMS gap watch, management review packs and inspection readiness: they read records, write a report and propose emails or flags for approval.
  • Alerts and watches: built-in rules for records left waiting, such as a possible adverse event without a decision or a prior-approval change without a regulatory decision, plain-language watches, and Ask Q Agent to work this.
  • AI final review before a record is routed: the AI reads it as the reviewers will and lists must-fix, should-fix and consider findings with a suggested fix; it changes nothing.

How it fits the platform

Q Intelligence and Q Agent read the same records as every module: complaints, investigations and CAPAs, change controls and documents, validation, risk assessments and submissions, the LIMS, ELN, MES, calibration and CMMS, with their audit trails. Administrators can connect the organization's own systems as tool connectors; the chat offers only the tools a server declares read-only, and a change in a connected system goes through Q Agent, where each action waits for approval.

The REST API and the MCP server let other systems and internal agents read records and start Q Agent tasks; records are read-only through the API and every action a task proposes still waits for approval.

Where people decide

The AI drafts, searches, analyses and proposes; people create the records, approve or dismiss each action, review, decide and sign. Records Q Agent creates start in review and still need a qualified person to review and sign. Text in records, files, web pages, alerts and connected systems is read as data, never as instructions: if it contains instructions, the AI says so and does not follow them.

Questions about Q Intelligence, Q Agent and agents

How do AI agents work in a GxP quality system?

In QLogix an agent is given a goal, reads the records with read-only tools, keeps a visible plan and proposes each change as an action with a reason. A person approves or dismisses each action; under the drafts setting, drafting actions run on their own while flags, emails and schedules still wait. Actions run in the approver's name, records the agent creates start in review, and nothing is signed or closed by the agent.

Is AI allowed in GMP?

Yes, within the rules for any computerized system used for GMP: it is validated for its intended use and controlled under 21 CFR Part 11 and EU GMP Annex 11. The draft EU GMP Annex 22, not final when this page was written, would keep generative AI and large language models out of critical GMP applications and allow them in non-critical uses with qualified people reviewing the output. In QLogix the AI drafts and proposes, and qualified people review, decide and sign.

Does the AI make quality decisions?

No. It drafts, searches, trends, flags and proposes. Dispositions, priorities, reporting routes, reportability, approvals and signatures stay with qualified people, and each AI draft and action is recorded in the audit trail with the AI tool and model named.

How do I know where an answer came from?

Every answer lists what was consulted: the records, documents, guidance passages, web pages and connector calls it used. Regulatory answers cite the document, code, page and official link, and AI drafts quote their evidence exactly from the write-up or the attached documents.

What does FDA's AI credibility framework mean for a quality assistant?

FDA's January 2025 draft guidance asks for a credibility assessment, scaled to model risk, for AI that supports regulatory decisions on drugs and biologics. It sets outside its scope uses that only improve operational efficiency and do not affect patient safety, drug quality or the reliability of study results; your quality system still decides how such tools are controlled. In QLogix the AI's output is a draft or a proposal that a person reviews before anything is created or signed.

How is it licensed?

Per user per month, on its own or with other modules, ordered by purchase order from the client portal. AI use is included in the licence. There is no card payment or self-serve plan.
